10:05am PT: Confirmed – iPhone, AirPods and Watch are the key products today.
Apple Watch is up first. Tim Cook pumping it up right now. Let’s see it, Tim…
“Biggest display and thinnest design ever”.

10:07: Jeff Williams detailing Watch updates
Slightly bigger screen than Watch Ultra, and up to 33% bigger display than previous generations.
Wider aspect ratio “makes Series 10 appear softer and more streamlined”.
Wide-angle, OLED display confirmed. Now more visible from extreme angles, and 40% brighter from an angle.
New watchface Flux fills the screen ‘second by second’.

Rose gold and silver joining the new Jet Black polished design.

Internals completely reimagined, including a smaller but more powerful speaker, and a new metal back allowing for a faster charge – 80% battery in just 30 minutes.

Polished titanium now also available, replacing stainless steel of Series 9. Available in ‘natural’, gold, and ‘dark slate grey’.
Made with 95% recycled titanium and 100% renewable electricity.
New S10 chip is inside, focused on immediate detection of movement-based functions like emergencies and gestures.

Smart stack updates automatically, adding new widgets “as you need them”, along with machine learning for on-device language translation.
10:15: Sumbul Ahmad Desai to talk health

Sleep apnea detection confirmed!
10:18: Julz Arney to talk fitness
Series 10 has a built-in depth gauge and water temperature detection. Snorkelling-specific features and other water activities.

More new bands, dang!

WATCH ULTRA TIME
As expected, it’s still the Watch Ultra 2. No 3rd gen just yet!
They’re fully just spitting new features now – here’s some screens! 😂

Watch Ultra confirmed in satin black!

10:27: Kate Bergeron to talk AirPods
Entire AirPods line-up updated, including AirPods Max.
There’s a new 4th-gen version of the regular AirPod design. “Most comfortable AirPods ever”.
H2 chip on board. Improved audio quality with a new architecture, “the best sounding AirPods ever in an open-ear design”. Personalised Spatial Audio featured, along with voice isolation that “instantly removes background noise perfectly, no matter your environment”.

Now there’s a mid-tier AirPod with the same open-ear design, but with Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode!
Adaptive Audio is included as part of that upgrade, meaning you don’t need to switch modes when moving from a noisy environment to a quiet one. Conversation Awareness is featured too, reducing media volume when it detects that you’re speaking.

AirPods Max
New colours, AND USB-C BABY!!
That’s all. No new case, no more-practical folding, but ah well.

AirPods Pro 2 update
10:15: Sumbul Ahmad Desai back to talk health for AirPods Pro 2
New hearing protection feature, on by default. Machine learning will reduce louder and more intermittent noises – 48,000 times per second.
Clinically validated hearing test. Interesting! Apple’s study of 160,000 people shows around 75% of people with hearing loss haven’t had it treated.

So now the AirPods Pro 2 are a hearing aid, too!

iPHONE TIME

10:42: Kaian Drance to talk iPhone 16
6.1-inch display for iPhone 16 & 6.7 inches for iPhone 16 Plus.
2000 nits brightness, down to 1 nit in the dark.

Camera button confirmed!
Wow, no further info on that. Okay!
A18 chip

10:45: Sribalan Santhanam talks A18 chip
A18 chip confirmed, devoted to Apple Intelligence. Surprise! 3nm design. 6-core CPU, 4 efficiency cores. 17% more system memory bandwidth.
Latest desktop-class GPU.

Apple Intelligence
10:48: The man Craig Federighi to talk AI
Generative models, ChatGPT-powered stuff, yada yada. Is this what you want? Well here it is, baby.
All runs on Apple’s own Apple Silicon servers, apparently. Private Cloud Compute, it’s called. Your data is never stored, and used only for your requests. Independent experts can also verify the ongoing privacy promise. Not bad, not bad.
The AI servers all work on 100% renewable energy, too. Now that’s something.

As promised last month, Apple Intelligence will use natural language to help you find images and videos in your photo gallery.

Siri has a massive upgrade to Apple Intelligence level, understanding natural language in a way it absolutely could not before.
First set of Apple Intelligence features enter beta in October, starting with US English around the world. Localised English languages coming in December, followed by other languages in 2025.

Siri’s version of Google’s Circle to Search looks good too, using photos to identify things you take photos of.

10:58: Piyush Pratik to talk camera controls
Okay, now more about that camera button, which is called Camera Control.
One click launches the camera, and will then take a photo with another click. Click and hold takes a video instead. It’s got haptic feedback, too.
YES: Touch gestures thanks to capacitive feedback, distinguishing between full click and a lighter press. The lighter press reveals more controls, including auto focus and zoom, depth of field, etc – the latter working by sliding your finger along the button. Genius.
I forgot to get screengrabs of those while typing… 😂

48MP main camera on the regular iPhone 16!
It’s a ’48MP fusion camera’, and the 2x zoom makes proper 12MP optical shots.
Ultrawide with auto focus. Macro too!

Spatial photos confirmed too, as expected, along with noise cancellation on videos to deliver clearer audio.

iPhone 16 camera wrap:

11:06: Some talk now about gaming. Missed the speaker’s name.
Ray tracing and 5x higher frame rates.
Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and Assassin’s Creed Mirage “work great on iPhone 16”. A Tencent game too, Honor of Kings World.
You can probably tell I’m not a gamer…

Bigger battery
But, surprise surprise, they’re not saying how big.
Some other new tricks and improvements, for satellite messaging in particular.

iPhone 16 wrap:

11:12: Tim Cook introducing next segment, iPhone 16 Pro models
AHA! Bronze colour confirmed! ‘Desert titanium’.

Pro displays are larger now, at 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches.

On the Pro models, Siri will allow you to extract colour edits from photos and apply them to edits in Darkroom. It can also help you scout photo locations.

A18 Pro chip introduced, but still on 3nm design. 16-core neural engine, though, and 6-core GPU!

11:21: Della Huff to talk photos on 16 Pro
oof, that’s a lot of info in one hit. Images:

“Incredibly nuanced photo customisation” –

11:25: Paulom Shah to talk video
Okay, I can’t really screengrab video in any useful way, but the new slow-motion cinematic feature is incredible!
But you can guess what’s happening here, right? 4K 120fps!
In both ProRes and Log. Daaamn.

And when you shoot in 4K 120, you can change the speed afterwards in the Photos app.

iPhone 16 Pro wrap:

Alright, 8:30pm here in Berlin – time to get my kids my to bed.
Priorities! I’ll flesh out the rest of this later.
Earlier today
What time will Apple’s big iPhone 16, iPad, Apple Watch and AirPods event happen in your time zone? Find out here!
As much as Apple’s products are adored around the world, it’s an American company with a largely North American market – so the 10am Pacific Time (America’s west coast) schedule for its ‘Glowtime’ event is no surprise.
So, first thing’s first: what time will the event occur in your part of the world?
The easiest answer is “type ’10am PT to (your city) time’ Google”, which will quickly give you an exact conversion – but here, below, you’ll find a list of some key time zones.
What time will Apple’s iPhone 16 ‘Glowtime’ event happen?
When it’s 10am on Monday September 9 at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, it will be:
- New York: 1 PM (13:00) Eastern Time (ET)
- London: 6 PM (18:00) British Summer Time (BST)
- Berlin: 7 PM (19:00) Central European Time (CET)
- Kyiv: 8 PM (20:00) Eastern European Time (EET)
- São Paulo: 2 PM (14:00) Brasília Time (BRT)
- Dubai 9 PM (21:00) Gulf Standard Time (GST)
- Mumbai: 10:30 PM (22:30) India Standard Time (IST)
- Sydney: 3 AM (Tuesday, 03:00) Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST)
- Tokyo: 2 AM (Tuesday, 02:00) Japan Standard Time (JST)
Okay, regarding the title of this post, some time zones won’t be watching it on Monday – they’ll be watching it sometime after midnight on Tuesday, if not on the train to work!
MORE: What will Apple reveal on September 9?

The above image is only speculative, but rumours suggest we can expect the regular iPhone 16 to have its cameras vertically aligned for stereoscopic image capture (for the Vision Pro), along with a bronze-like colour for the iPhone 16 Pro.
