How did Samsung do something this beautiful?

This sort of tradition isn’t something I’d normally expect from Samsung, but I’m glad they do it!

Every year, Samsung gives its default ringtone song ‘Over the Horizon’ a revamp. This year, it’s a stunning jazz piece composed by LA pianist Jacob Mann.

The annual creation doesn’t usually replace the ringtone on their phones, but rather it’s just a sort of branding exercise – an annual tradition to create some art.

They don’t usually produce a video of the recording either, from what I’ve seen, so this year’s revamp is even more magical.

Samsung says:

Samsung Electronics’ signature Galaxy brand sound , “Over the Horizon,” is back in 2025, reimagined through the dynamic rhythms and soulful harmonies of big band jazz.

For 2025, the vibrant tempo of big band jazz weaves the journey of One UI into the passage of time and the rhythm of everyday life. This rendition evokes an ideal day and a hopeful future, brought to life through vivid instrumental combinations and lively grooves.

The 2025 arrangement was created by Los Angeles-based pianist and composer Jacob Mann, with recording and mastering in Dolby Atmos overseen by engineer Will Kennedy.

It doesn’t feel like something Samsung would do, but if you watch and listen to the video above, I hope you’ll agree it’s a pretty damn cool thing.

It seems a lot of people look forward to it, too, and many have their own favourites

Nice version. IMO you can’t beat 2011, 2013-14, 2019, and 2024, but this is def one of the best ones!

“Over the Horizon” features the Seoul National University Gugak Orchestra led by music director Won il, who is known for overseeing the music at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. The track was recorded in Dolby Atmos and fine-tuned in collaboration with award-winning sound director Byeong Joon Hwang.
