I’ve bought a lot of pointless shit in my life, and to be honest, I can’t guarantee I won’t buy this. Sigh.
I’ve got a problem? You’ve got a problem!
This is the Leica Lux Grip, a Bluetooth-controlled, Magsafe-attached camera grip for your phone. And, depending on how you look at it, the price is either ‘only’ $329 USD / ~$520 AUD, or it’s an absolutely ridiculous $329 USD / ~$520 AUD.
The former perspective relies on any obsession you might have with the Leica brand, while the latter demands a little more sense. I’m not saying I have that particular breed of sense, but you might.
The best part is that the decision to put the Leica logo on the grip instead of the big round circle over the magnet feels like an admission that people won’t want others to know they bought a Leica-branded phone grip.
It’s made of aluminium, which should feel nice and cool in the hand (if only literally), but it doesn’t have the iconic Leica red dot logo, so… I dunno. Feels like a rort.

What does it do?
Well, you can watch the videos above and below, but here are the claims:
Developed to be used with the Leica Lux iPhone app, the grip features a two-stage shutter release, just like any good camera.
It also has a button to switch between shooting modes, two customisable buttons (again like any good camera), and a dial for changing the settings you’d otherwise tweak on-screen.
That’s… it, really. There’s an official leather case for it, too, but did you think that’d be included in the price? Ha. Haha. Hahahaha, oh dear. *wipes a tear*
