This modern revival of a bonafide Italian classic keeps that spirit alive, blending retro charm with clever electrified tech.

Fiat has unveiled the Grande Panda 4×4 concept as a cheeky nod to the original 1980s Panda 4×4 – an unassuming little tank that could climb mountains and still do the school run.
Visually, it’s a throwback done right. The maroon paint job pays tribute to the ’90s Country Club edition, while beige accents, steel wheels, and a roof rack (complete with spare tyre and toolbox) scream “ready for adventure.”
It’s rugged without being over-the-top, and the pixel-style headlights add a modern twist to the retro vibe.

Under the skin, Fiat’s added an “electrified innovative rear axle,” likely meaning a dual-motor setup—one per axle—for all-wheel drive. This setup is similar to what’s found in other Stellantis models like the Jeep Avenger 4xe.
It’s built on the electric version of the Grande Panda, not the mild-hybrid petrol variant, which suggests a focus on sustainable off-road capability.
As with most Fiat models, it’s all about function over flash. Chunky plastic cladding, raised suspension, underbody protection, and auxiliary LED lights make it clear this isn’t just a city cruiser. The 16-inch steel wheels wrapped in all-terrain rubber are a practical choice, reinforcing its go-anywhere attitude.

Fiat hasn’t confirmed production plans, but the company’s European boss hinted that it could eventually reach the road: “Surely we will have this car on the road in the future – but not tomorrow.”
If it does, it could fill the gap left by the previous Panda 4×4, offering a compact, affordable off-roader in a market that’s sorely lacking them.
In a world full of oversized SUVs that never leave the pavement, the Grande Panda 4×4 concept is a refreshing reminder that small can be mighty.
