A Lego set with only one piece?! Huhuh, good one Dad.

Lego x Netflix One Piece: The Going Merry Pirate Ship (75639)

Big One Piece fan? You’re in for a treat. Seven LEGO One Piece sets are landing on 1 August, and yep, pre-orders are already live.

I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for One Piece. In my early 20s, back in the dawn of the 21st century, I was working in a GE customer service call centre. This was before smart phones, so these jobs were about as dull as any job could be, but they’d foolishly only blocked a few well-known websites from our desktop PCs and left the rest of the web open.

I stumbled upon a ‘scanlated’ manga (pages translated from Japanese to English by fans and then uploaded to the web) of One Piece, and filled my hours reading the adventures of Luffy and his crew. Good times! The crazy thing is that the manga, despite debuting in 1997, is still running today and celebrated 1000 chapters way back in 2020.

Weirdly, these aren’t specifically anime or manga-inspired, as it’s the Netflix version that Lego’s partnered with, so you’ll spot “Netflix’s One Piece” on the boxes.

Mind you, considering the limitations of Lego minifigs, they don’t really look all that different to the manga and anime versions of the characters. To Netflix’s credit, their adaptation is fairly faithful.

You’ve got five main sets plus two BrickHeadz: one for Luffy, and another for Buggy the Clown.

Here’s what’s coming:

The Going Merry Pirate Ship (75639)
