Remember the first time you saw the poster for the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie? If you liked that, you’ll love this new life-size model.
I was a very lucky 9-year-old in 1990, turning 10. My birthday was in early August (still is, in fact) and even though the TMNT movie hit screens across America in March, its Australian release didn’t come until… early August.
So it was that my dutiful mum took me and a bunch of school friends to see the movie one sunny afternoon, before heading over the road to the Billabong family restaurant – where we proceeded to tear apart my Michaelangelo birthday cake and throw chunks at each other. My poor mum…

I saw the film in cinema a few more times after that, and of course quickly obtained the VHS as soon as it hit stores.
Of course, as much as I still love the film now, it’ll always be that incredible poster that sticks in my memory.
You remember the one, with the four ninja turtles poking their heads up through a New York City manhole, offering our first glimpse at them outside of the comic books and cartoons.
I really should buy a print of it…
So, I gotta say, I’m kinda surprised it’s taken so long for somebody to make a model of that image!
Well, it might not be the first, but at 42 inches wide (about twice the width of an actual NYC man hole), it’d have to be the biggest and most detailed of its type.
It’s not available yet, but if you’re able and inclined to slap down about US$2500 (AU$4000) plus shipping, you can pre-order ‘TMNT Underground’ over at Sideshow.com.
