Pixar is back in the space race, with its new film Elio promising adventures in the stars.
The sci-fi epic Wall-E is unquestionably the best Pixar film (fight me), and while I’m not sure Elio will come anywhere near it, there’s promise here.
None of the directors or writers on this one have any blockbuster wins to their name, although one of the writers also worked on Soul and Luca – both great films, if not big hits.
The main director, Domee Shi, gives me some confidence. She directed the brilliant Pixar short Bao, and the very fun Turning Red, so there’s hope!
