Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film One Battle After Another drops a bewildering, brilliant trailer.
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Bob Ferguson – a former revolutionary now mostly occupied with getting stoned in his backyard – on a quest to find his missing daughter, we appear to be in for a classic PTA blend of action, satire, and dark comedy.
This is understood to be Anderson’s most expensive film to date, which is no surprise with the amount of action in the trailer above, although a big chunk of the budget might just come down to the cast: DiCaprio is joined on screen by Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor and Alana Haim.

The story, written by PTA himself, is reportedly a modern adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel Vineland, shifting the original 1984 setting to contemporary times.
Frankly I hadn’t heard of it (I do read, damn y’all, but not widely enough it seems!), but I think I might pick it up before catching the film.
One Battle After Another is slated for release on September 26, 2025.
