Years ago I saw a picture on the interwebs that I thought was pretty cool. It was this one: two bronzed Aussie couples enjoying a bevy in Brisbane, 1983.

Everything about this took me back to being a kid at my parents backyard barbecues, looking up at all the cool seventies-era adults mingling around the place.
I was super envious of the cool guys with long hair and gorgeous girls in crocheted shirts, blonde hair everywhere. This photograph was all of that and more. I mean look at those absolute manes, those bronzed bodies, and the clothes that revealed almost everything – and that’s just the guys.

So, of course, I had to know more about this photo and who took it, and that brought me to Rennie Ellis.
Rennie captured the Australian lifestyle throughout the decades like no other, with a huge body of work centered on the seventies and eighties.
Here’s some other beaut examples of Rennie’s work, but the real magic is on his website, linked below. Get in there!
