Pokémon teams up with Wallace & Gromit creators on a new project

If you loved the stop-animation styling of the far-too-short Pokémon Concierge series on Netflix, here’s some good news: they’re at it again, this time with the creators of Wallace & Gromit.

The British studio behind Wallace & Gromit, Aardman, is legendary in the world of animation – I remember when the first Wallace & Gromit short, A Grand Day Out, hit screens back in the early ’90s.

Aardman has done loads of popular work since then, like Chicken Run and some popular kids’ shows in Timmy Time and Shaun the Sheep.

As for this very unexpected Pokémon project, the details are still under wraps. No title. No clear format. Could it be a movie? A series? A short film? Shrugs all round.

What we do know is that it’s set to drop in 2027, so don’t hold your breath just yet.

2027?! 😖

In a statement, The Pokémon Company (TPC) hinted that Aardman’s signature charm will be woven into fresh Pokémon adventures.

And, well, yeah, you’d hope that was the point of partnering up.

TPC’s VP of Marketing and Media, Taito Okiura, called the partnership a “dream” and promised fans are “in for a treat.”

“This is a dream partnership for Pokémon. Aardman are masters of their craft, and we have been blown away by their talent and creativity. What we have been working on together ensures our global Pokémon fans are in for a treat!”

Aardman’s managing director, Sean Clarke, said the studio feels “privileged” to reimagine the Pokémon world with their unique touch.

Speaking of Wallace & Gromit, there’s a new film on the way—Vengeance Most Fowl.

It premieres on UK TV this Christmas and continues the story from the classic 1993 short The Wrong Trousers. Globally, Netflix will stream it from 3 January 2025.

Stay tuned for more updates on Pokémon and Aardman’s collaboration. With these two powerhouses working together, expectations are sky-high.
