Ever wonder what Saturdays look like for others juggling the dad life, trying to find that sweet spot between work, family time, and a moment of peace?
Let’s take a cheeky peek into the Saturday routines of dads. And hey, why not join in? We’ve got a poll at the end to see how your weekend stacks up. No judgements here, just good ol’ dad wonder. (For me, it’s 5am and I’m somehow covered in mozzie bites and can’t sleep, so here I am bloggin’ away…)
Let me know if I’ve left any obvious ones out! Also, I’d actually love to add some thoughts here from other dads – so let me know what you get up to on a Saturday and I’ll drop it in here!

Somehow still asleep
Catching those elusive Zs
First up, the “Somehow still asleep” dads. Hats off to you, gents, for mastering the art of sleeping in amidst the chaos of family life. It’s a rare skill.
Whether it’s because the kids are finally old enough to entertain themselves or you’ve just mastered the art of pretending to sleep so someone else gets up first, enjoy those extra winks. (And if I may just add… I hope your sleep-in is part of an equitable agreement!)

Prepping with a coffee
Fuel for the day
Ah, I know this one well – the “prepping with a coffee” dads. These early risers are up with the birds, armed with a strong cuppa to kickstart the day. Whether it’s planning the day’s activities, getting a head start on the chores, or simply enjoying a moment of quiet before the storm, coffee in hand is their morning mantra.
I’ll admit, although I’m usually up around 5 on weekdays and 7 on the weekend, some days I don’t wake up early enough for a quiet coffee on my lonesome – but my kids have learned to leave papa be until he’s charged. 😆

Outdoorsy stuff
Answering the call of the wild
For the “Outdoorsy stuff” dads, Saturdays mean adventure. Be it a family hike, a bike ride, or a fishing trip, these dads are all about soaking up the sun and fresh air. It’s their way of recharging and showing the kids there’s more to life than screens and sofas. (Although I sometimes struggle to imagine anything better…)

Sports with the kids
Passing down the love of the game
Then there are the dads who spend Saturdays doing “Sports with the kids.” It’s all about passing down their love for the game, whether it’s footy in the park, coaching little league, or just tossing a ball around in the backyard. It’s less about the score and more about the time spent together.

Gardening or DIY
The home improvement heroes
Our “Gardening or DIY” dads are the weekend warriors of home improvement. Whether they’re battling overgrown bushes, building a deck, or finally fixing that leaky tap, these dads find solace in their tools and the satisfaction of a job well done.
Do you get the kids involved? I try to, but honestly I find DIY pretty frustrating as it is, let alone having to monitor and guide a little monster… I really should, though. Perhaps that’s another new year’s resolution. For 2025. 😂

Working – inside or outside
The never-ending grind
And lastly, the dads who haven’t been able to fully escape the grind. Whether it’s catching up on office work, running a side hustle, or just tending to those never-ending projects, these dads are all about productivity. It’s not all work and no play, but sometimes duty calls, even on a Saturday. Just don’t let it last all day, if you can avoid it! The kids won’t be kids forever.
Alright dads, it’s your turn: let us know how you spend your Saturdays. Just pop your vote in the poll below.
Remember, every dad’s journey is unique, and there’s no right or wrong way to dad. Whether you’re catching extra Z’s or coaching the next generation of sports stars, you’re doing great. Keep it up, and let’s see what kind of Saturday squad we’ve got! 🌟
