New to photography? Here are 7 great Youtubers for tips and inspiration

The short link for this post is https://dadbase.co/HFQl

If, like me, you’re falling more and more in love with photography as you realise your phone is pretty damn good but your photos could still be a lot better… you might want some expert insight on how you can make the most of this expensive but enthralling hobby!

Here’s a handful of YouTube channels that I absolutely love – although I can definitely blame them for a few of my unnecessary (but much loved) purchases over the past few years.

James Popsys

Firstly, @jamespopsys. I love his nonchalant and non-influencer vibe, the places he visits, the advice he offers and that he has a good mix of reviews (always in search of his ideal camera) and just good ol’ wanderings through lovely locations.

Hannah Young

Hannah is a newer addition to my subscriptions. She’s a great presenter with a clear and friendly tone, and she covers a lot of the basics in street photography, apps, techniques and so forth – perfect for beginners and enthusiasts alike!

Gene Nagata

Next, @genenagata‘s Potato Jet (and his side blog too). I’ve been following Gene a long time. He too has a non-influencer/youtuber vibe, but probably not deliberately – he’s just too damn chaotic to nail the regimen, haha. ADHD, baby! But again, a great mix of reviews and slice-of-life content.

Becca Farsace

Next, duh, @becca.farsace! Becca is The Verge‘s video and photography wiz, but her own channel is also great value. She doesn’t post often, but she’s a busy lady!

Yewon Perry

Yewon is another new addition, after seeing some of her posts on Threads. Her videos are mostly photo diaries of her adventures, and they’re nicely edited with great vibes. Check out an example below!

Sidney Diongzon

@sidneydiongzon is another fave – eloquent, super experienced with great insights on the latest gear, and a generally good vibe.

Julia Trotti

And lastly, for no reason except my erratic brain, is @juliatrotti – Julia’s been so influential in my camera and lens purchases, and I use more than a few of her presets. A great presenter, a fellow Aussie, and incredible photography work!
