Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, Krypto swoops in to save the day!
Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor might take some getting used to, though…
UPDATE, May 14, 2025: The first full trailer for James Gunn’s new Superman movie has landed. Check it out here.
December 20, 2024: So far, James Gunn’s Superman movie is looking as good as I’d hoped. Watching this, I felt a welcome mix of nostalgia, excitement and a fair bit of emotion.
And, yeah, I never loved Snyder’s version.
This time, for James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman” film, David Corenswet dons the iconic cape, portraying a Superman who is both powerful and relatable – exactly as he should be.

The trailer kicks off with a battered Superman crash-landing into a snowy expanse, wounded, coughing blood and gasping for breath. (I thought I spied a tooth on the snow, but alas, it was just snow.)
In a heartfelt moment, he whistles for his loyal companion, Krypto, who gallops in thunderously to assist.
Elsewhere we see Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, while Nicholas Hoult – already an X-Man – steps into the role of supervillain Lex Luthor.

For now, we get only glimpses of the other known characters that’ll appear: Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, complete with the character’s signature bowl-cut hairstyle (omfg that hair).
Isabela Merced takes flight as Hawkgirl, while For All Mankind’s Edi Gathegi portrays Mister Terrific, showcasing his advanced technology. Anthony Carrigan is seen as Metamorpho.
Set to premiere on July 11, 2025, “Superman” aims to delve into the complexities of Clark Kent’s dual identity and his quest to balance his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Familiar stuff, of course – Gunn has said before that the story is “a movie about being good,” and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
