If you’re thinking about ditching your smartphone to be more present, especially as a parent, the Light Phone III might seem like the perfect way to cut the digital noise.
The Light Phone III is intentionally minimalist, beautifully designed, and aimed squarely at helping you resist the algorithmic rabbit holes most of us fall into daily.
But after watching Mr Mobile’s very deep dive into life with the Light Phone III (above), it’s clear that while the concept is compelling, the reality is… a bit messy. Far too messy for the likes of me, and maybe for you too.
I wrote about the Light Phone III when it first launched, so you can check out this story for a more detailed look at its specs.

The Light Phone III encourages focus and presence, and for someone looking to seriously scale back, that’s a big deal. But the trade-offs are steep.
Texting is clunky, apps are limited (no QR scanning in 2025? Really?), and bugs still linger – like calls failing. Even basic tasks can become genuinely annoying hurdles.
(Aside: My wife overheard me watching this video and called out “Wow, that phone would have you strangling everyone around you within 10 minutes”. She truly gets me. 😂)

If you’re up for a challenge and can embrace a slower, more intentional pace of life, the Light Phone III could be worth a try.
Just don’t expect it to slot easily into your daily routine. Especially if you rely on things like digital tickets, maps, or quick messages with family groups.
It’s a phone built for disconnection, but maybe not quite ready for real-world chaos.
For those who want something a bit less extreme, Mr Mobile also mentions the Minimal Phone, which still runs your usual apps but discourages mindless use through design. It’s not perfect either, but maybe a more realistic middle ground for modern life.
